Two more wins as Abbeymead Rovers’ Stuart Langworthy retains feelgood factor

Stuart Langworthy is still clocking up the wins as manager of England’s over-60s walking football team.

Two more games have produced two more wins – this time against Wales with the A team winning 5-3 and the shadow squad pulling through 3-1.

The matches were played at St George’s Park and England’s A team included Stroud and Abbeymead Rovers goalkeeper John Hammonds.

However, it was Alan Davies who took the individual honours for the home side as he grabbed a hat-trick. Graham Curry and Peter Stacey got England’s other goals.

In the shadow squad game, Roy Gladwell got two of England’s goals – the first was the goal of the day as he took a square pass before hitting a stunning shot ‘top bins’ which the Welsh keeper did not see. Tony Jones got England’s other goal.

While Langworthy is the front man for England’s over-60s, he is the first to say that it is no one-man operation because he’s assisted by Cirencester’s Charlie Wise, while his son Ross is the coach.

Langworthy senior has been synonymous with Abbeymead Rovers for many years.

Meanwhile, Rob Pass, of Stroud, was part of the England over-50s shadow squad that won 2-0 against Wales. The over-50s A team won 7-1.
