Corse & Staunton skipper Matt Brown led from the front as his side enjoyed a thumping win over Charlton Kings.

The 30-year-old Brown, an off-spinner, took career-best figures of 6-18 as Charlton Kings were shot out for 135 inside 36 overs, well adrift of Corse & Staunton’s 303-9.

Corse & Staunton remain hot on the heels of leaders Bourton Vale in the Gloucestershire Division of the West of England Premier League and put clear daylight between themselves and third-placed Charlton Kings.

“I was very pleased with the wickets,” said Brown, who has been with the club since he was seven or eight and is in his first season as captain.

“But Jack Tyrer stole the honours, he scored a century and had three catches and a run out. He was pretty incredible in the field.”

Tyrer went to the wicket with his side 81-3 after Charlton Kings had won the toss.

He made 113 from 112 balls, an innings that included 11 fours and four sixes, and Brown said: “It was his first century for the 1sts, he’s scored 100s for the 2nds. It was good to see him get over the line.”

Tyrer, like Brown, has come through the club’s ranks.

“There are a few of us,” continued Brown. “Ed Goolden and Matt Cox are others, we’re a close-knit group.

“We’ve got some youngsters coming through as well – Harrison Tegg and Tristan Maree – they are doing really well.”

On Saturday, Corse & Staunton travel to fifth-placed Chipping Campden, who, like Corse & Staunton, were playing in the Gloucestershire Division last season.

“It’s good to see sides coming up doing well,” added Brown.

Corse & Staunton were Division One champions in 2025 after suffering back-to-back relegations.

They trail Bourton Vale, who finished runners-up behind Chipping Sodbury in the Gloucestershire Division last season, by 22 points but have played one game fewer and have a 21-point cushion over Charlton Kings, who have also played one game more than them.

“There are no expectations,” said Brown. “We’re enjoying our cricket. We’re taking every game as it comes, we go out to win every game.”
