Longlevens are hoping to maintain fine run as they head to Fairford Town
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 2nd January 2026, 10:30
In-form Longlevens head to Fairford Town tomorrow hoping to continue their rapid rise up the Hellenic League Premier Division table.
An unbeaten run of seven games – five wins and two draws – has lifted them up to seventh in the 20-team division and on the edge of the play-off positions.
They came from behind to win 2-1 at Tuffley Rovers in their most recent outing and long-serving official Chris Marshall said: “Our run of form has energised everybody at the club, especially that win over Tuffley.
“That’s our derby fixture, it was really important to beat them.”
Goals by the free-scoring Finlay Gwillim and substitute Bradley Martin secured the three points, their fourth league win in a row.
That runs includes victories over the top two – Roman Glass St George (3-2) and Slimbridge (1-0) – and Marshall said: “We’re doing really well, we’re picking up wins where last season we’d have got draws or even been pipped.
“The exciting thing is that the performances are there and the fight is there.”
And Longlevens’ supporters will also be excited by the fact that 10 of their remaining 17 games are at Saw Mills End, where they have already won seven out of nine.
“Co-managers Buster Davies and Pete Boyle have done a great job,” added Marshall. “They’ve brought in some good players and have brought energy to the team.
“Those wins against the top two were standout results, beating Slimbridge was particularly sweet because they are managed by Michael Palmer who was our manager last season.”
Longlevens finished 17th last time out after taking 10 points from their final four games and Marshall continued: “We are looking to progress. Our status as a Hellenic League club is really important to us but we want to continue to grow.
“We have got one of the biggest youth set-ups in the county, we are trying to be as big as we can.
“We are trying to maximise everything we do, the whole club is growing in stature and we feel we are contributing to the community.”
Longlevens go into tomorrow’s game two places and four points below Cirencester Town, who occupy the last play-off position, but the Cotswolds club have played two games more.
Fairford, who are 11th, have won just two of their 11 home league games – they’ve drawn six – and have lost their last three league games, most recently 1-0 at home to fourth-placed Corsham Town.Copyright © 2026 The Local Answer Limited.
