This year’s Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon and Lydney Tennis Club’s Open Day will both go ahead following last weekend’s postponements.

The half marathon will now take place on Saturday 7th April and delighted race director Chris Hammersley said: “It’s all systems go.”

The return of the Beast from the East forced last Sunday’s postponement, much to the disappointment of the close on 2,200 runners who were due to take part.

Hammersley doesn’t expect so many runners to go to the starting line next month but is hopeful that there will be 1,500 to 1,600 competitors.

“We’ll lose some, we understand that,” said Hammersley, who explained that those who entered for the 18th March run now have four options. They are:

1. They can run on 7th April

2. Defer their entry until the Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon

3. Defer their entry until next year’s Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon

4. Not run at all and their entry money will automatically go to charity.

Hammersley also added that there is an opportunity for people who didn’t enter the orginal half marathon to enter the race on 7th April, and anyone interested in doing so should visit the race website.

Next month’s race is expected to start at 10am, although Hammersley said there may be a couple of slight alterations to the original route.

Meanwhile, Lydney Tennis Club chairman Martin Godwin has confirmed that the club’s Open Day, which was due to have taken place last Sunday, will now take place this Sunday.
