Severn Athletic Club runner Archie Fox is too hot for rivals at Stroud Beer Race
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Saturday, 30th May 2026, 09:00
In-form Archie Fox earned the cheers as he won the annual Stroud Beer Race by almost half a minute.
The Severn Athletic Club runner completed the 7.2-mile, three-lap hilly road race over Minchinhampton Common in 44 minutes, 37 seconds.
That was 27 seconds quicker than Stroud Athletic Club’s Charlie Leach, who was one of four Stroud AC runners to finish in the top 10 on Wednesday.
“It was very hot, the high 20s,” said Fox. “It’s the hottest conditions I’ve run in.”
He also said that it was his biggest race win, although he admitted he was slightly disappointed with his time.
“I was three minutes slower than last year when I finished fifth,” he continued. “But that race was run in perfect conditions.
“I wouldn’t say this was my best ever performance but I won the race which was the important thing.”
Fox’s Severn AC team-mate Alice Tredgett also enjoyed a good race. She was the first lady home and finished sixth overall in 46.45.
The race is organised by Stroud AC and their other three runners in the top 10 were fourth-placed Dean Neale (45.43), Robin Loftus who was one place behind him in 46.15, and Jody Hogg who was eighth in 47.06.
“We’re always proud to see so many Stroud runners doing well in one of our races,” said Stroud AC chairman Ian Newns.
Fox, meanwhile, is now targeting the Cirencester 10K, commonly known as the Summer Sizzler, on Wednesday 10th June.
