Gloucester Marathon organisers ‘pretty pleased’ as 1,500 have entered so far for August double-header

Last year’s Gloucester Marathon attracted almost 1,000 runners

It’s all systems go for this year’s Gloucester Marathon and with less than seven weeks to go until the big race, organisers are on course for their target number of 2,000 entries.

Organiser Andrea Maxted-Jones, who runs the event with her husband Andy, said that the race – which this year incorporates a half-marathon as well – has so far attracted 1,500 competitors.

The race starts at 8am on Sunday 6th August and begins and ends in Gloucester Quays.

“We’re pretty pleased with the number of entries,” said Maxted-Jones. “People can enter the race right up until the day before the event.”

This is the second year that TriMax Events, the company run by Andy and Andrea Maxted-Jones, have run the marathon in the city.

Last year the event attracted almost 1,000 runners and was won by Steven Way, from Hampshire, in a time of two hours, 29 minutes, 45 seconds.

The 1,500 entries so far received for this year’s event are divided pretty equally between the marathon and the half-marathon.

Both races will start at the Quays at 8am.
