Glorious weather, great numbers and a new record were just three of the many highlights at this year’s Bourton 10K.

More than 700 runners went to the start line but there was one runner out on his own at the finish just over half-an-hour later.

Right from the off Daniel Studley of Bristol & West AC demonstrated why he is a 29-minute 10K runner, taking an early lead and he made it look so easy as he set a new course record of 30.05, ahead of second-placed runner Simon Nott (31.33) from Calne Running Club.

The first lady home was Rachel Felton (34.20) from Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, something she has achieved on three occasions in recent times.

Samuel Goodchild, from Cornwall Athletics Club, who was celebrating his 18th birthday, produced a stunning performance to finish in 32.16 which earned him fifth place.

There were also a number of familiar faces in the race – it sold out in a record 23 minutes – including Alex Lee, Dennis Walmsley and Garry Payne who are all previous Bourton 10K winners.

Bourton Roadrunners had six of their own runners competing.

Darren Long had another fine run (37.16 and 4th MV45) while close behind was Victoria Briggs in 40.04 although she was disappointed not to break 40 minutes again this year.

Martin Cook clocked 40.41 and on his heels Niamh Shoemark recorded a PB of 40.51 and 2nd LV50.

Gill Carrick, celebrating her 60th birthday, had a fine run and was pleased with 51.58 which earned her 2nd LV60, while Alan Gibson, who ran with his niece Kate in her first ever 10K, completed in 61.06.

Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club were also well represented in the race with Bill Leggate leading the way for the club, setting a new PB and finishing an impressive 11th overall and first in his age group.

In the absence of a frustratingly injured Dave Bell, it fell to Leggate to lead the team who produced many strong performances with eight, including two ladies – Jenny Manners and Sophie Chudley – finishing in the top 100.

Cirencester AC results: 1 Bill Leggate (Cirencester AC) 33.39 – 1st V40; 18 Adrian Williams 34.47; 65 David Wright 38.29; 68 Jenny Manners 38.36 – 8th lady; 72 Simon Campbell 39.00; 75 Howard Ewan 39.06; 81 Neil Corbiere 39.25; 90 Sophie Chudley 39.41; 109 Mark Sysum 40.22; 139 Ionel Iancu 41.34; 147 Alex Chudley 41.56; 155 Tom Renton-Rose 42.06; 242 Karen Higuera 45.59; 265 Paul Timms 47.10; 411 Pam Wheeler 54.03; 437 Barbara Thomas 55.45; 450 Rachel Barrow 56.22; 453 Liza Darroch 56.30 – club FV70 record; 459 Samantha Timms 56.47; 536 Ruth Fulford 1.01.57.
