Around 2,000 runners set to take part in Sunday’s Stroud Half Marathon

Jim Adams is a big supporter of the Stroud Half Marathon

Ask Jim Adams to describe the Stroud Half Marathon and he’ll give you one word – “Brilliant!”

Adams is well qualified to comment of course, because as well as taking part in the event on many occasions he is also chairman of Stroud Athletic Club so he clearly knows his running.

“The people of the locality really support it,” he said. “We’ll have around 2,000 runners taking part but it’s not just the runners, it’s the people who cheer them on who help to make it so special.”

The Stroud Half Marathon, which this year takes place on Sunday 27th October, is a very well-established event on the local sporting calendar.

“It’s been going for nearly 40 years,” continued Adams, “people come from all over the county to take part, it’s one of the biggest sporting events we have around here.”

Adams expects the winner to be crossing the finishing line in around one hour, 15 minutes, and although he won’t be running himself he still has a very important role to play on the day.

“I’ve had sciatica for the past 10 weeks, I’m just getting over it,” he said. “I’m organising the marshalls, it takes more than 60 people to marshall an event like this.”

The Stroud Half Marathon gets under way at 9am from Marling School.
