The in-form Overbury Bowling Club are through to the quarter-finals of the men’s WBA County Triples after two impressive wins – the first against Hewell.

It was nip and tuck in the early stages with Hewell leading 7-6 after the first 13 ends before Hewell extended their advantage to 10-6 with three ends to play.

Things looked bleak for Overbury who had not recorded more than one shot in any end in the match.

On the 16th end, Overbury scored another one shot and then broke their single shot sequence by winning two shots on the 17th end, so reducing the deficit to 10-9.

That set up the match for a grandstand finish and the team of Mike Mace, Dan Mason and Neil Williams rose to the occasion superbly as they recorded a full house ‘hot shot’ of all nine on the last end to win by eight shots.

Overbury then edged into the last eight of the competition with a 12-10 victory in a tense match at Vines Park, Droitwich.

In another accurate, low scoring game, the match was tied 8-8 after 14 of the 18 ends.

A tactical change from Overbury saw them bring the mat up the green. It worked as they gained a three-shot advantage going into the final end.

Vines Park put two woods close early in the final end but Dan Mason went on the offensive and changed the head in Overbury’s favour to maintain the trio’s winning momentum.
