Exciting boxer Anton Esson is hoping to put on a show when he fights on the undercard of the Joseph Parker/Fabio Wardley blockbuster at the O2 Arena on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who lives in Bishop’s Cleeve, has won all four of his professional fights, three of them by knockout, and is heading to London full of confidence.

He takes on the experienced Jordan Ellison in a four-round super-lightweight contest and he said: “I think it will be entertaining, I’m looking for a quick finish.

“He’ll be fit, this will be my toughest fight but there will be a lot of eyes on me, this is a big opportunity.”

The 29-year-old Ellison, who is from the North East, is an experienced boxer, but he’s lost the majority of his 70-plus fights and Esson’s supporters will certainly be hopeful that he can make it five wins out of five.

Esson found out only a couple of weeks ago that he was fighting on the show, which is being promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, but he said: “It was too big an opportunity to turn down, it’s short notice but I thought I’m definitely taking it.

“I’ve just come out of a fight camp so I’m ready, I can’t wait for the fight to start.”

Esson, who is originally from Longlevens and fights out of Baker Street ABC in Gloucester, will be taking a coach load of supporters with him to the O2.

His previous professional fights were in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Swindon so this will be a big step up.

He is travelling down on Thursday and the one-time Chosen Hill School pupil admitted: “I’ve never even been to the O2 before but this is my chance to show what I can do.

“I want as many fights as I can get. It’s tough because I’ve won all four of my fights with three knockouts, it’s hard to get matched up, people don’t want to face me.”

The 5ft 8in Esson is a southpaw and he likes to throw his left over the top, adding: “That’s the one with all the power.”

He is coached in Gloucester by Todd Roberts, someone he has known for a long time.

“I’ve been with him since I was a young boy, I’ve not looked back, he’s brilliant,” said Esson, who works as a civil engineer.

“I want to keep beating people and I want to win titles.

“I want to win them the traditional way - Southern Area, English, British and then on to Europe.”

These are certainly exciting times for Esson and not just in boxing because his partner, Alice Brown, gave birth to Lula two-and-a-half weeks ago.
