Hartpury College students are celebrating international ‘firsts’ after achieving success as members of the Modern Pentathlon Academy.

Jack White will make his international modern pentathlon debut at the Czech Open Championships, while British Under-19 number one Josh Hood has claimed his first international medal in Portugal.

White has been named in the Pentathlon GB junior squad for the showpiece event in Prague on 11th-12th May.

He gained his landmark international selection after producing a series of eye-catching performances, including when finishing third at the BUCS Pentathlon and Biathlon Championships.

After strong performances in the ride, fence and swim events, White sealed a top-three spot with a strong performance in the laser run.

Hood brought home a bronze medal after finishing third in the under-19 class as part of the Pentathlon GB team at the Leiria Open Trophy.

James Wild, Modern Pentathlon Academy Manager at Hartpury, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Jack will make his international debut at the Czech Open Championships – it’s a fantastic achievement.

“The dedication and commitment that he’s been producing in training on a consistent basis has been reflected in his performances in competition.

“That’s been recognised by the selectors with Jack’s call-up to compete in Prague, which is a great opportunity for him to gain further top-level experience and hopefully will be the first of many.

“Josh produced yet another fantastic performance to claim his first international medal in Portugal, which bodes really well for his future events.

“The continued success of our students is a reflection of the superb efforts they’re putting into their training, which is tailored around their academic timetables to ensure they have the best possible opportunity to reach their potential.”
