More than 700 people set to take part in Santa Fun Run in Gloucester on Saturday
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 11th December 2025, 09:00
Come and join the festive fun.
That’s the message from Matt Cass as he looks forward to the increasingly popular Santa Fun Run in Gloucester, which this year takes place on Saturday.
Cass, a member of the Rotary Club of Gloucester and the driving force behind the event, is hoping as many people as possible get involved.
He said today that 769 have signed up which is considerably more than last year’s record of more than 650, and he said: “It’s about having fun and raising money for good causes.”
The event raised more than £6,000 for local charities last year and it has become a major event in the city in the countdown to Christmas.
Registration for this year’s fun run opens at 9.30am ahead of a 10.30am start in King's Square.
The vast majority of the people taking part are dressed as Santa, but not all, with the sea of red interspersed with the odd change of colour.
“We have quite a few people dressed as elves,” continued Cass. “We’ve had inflatable snowmen, inflatable Santas, we’ve even had someone dressed as Scooby Doo!”
This year’s lead runner will be Chris Nicholls, of Severn Athletic Club, but Cass is keen to stress that it’s not a race.
“It’s for anyone,” he said. “Entrants can run, walk or jog 5K or 1K. We’ve had people pushing prams, in wheelchairs and even on crutches. It’s free for people with blue badges and dogs are welcome."
The Santa Fun Run was held for the first time back in 2017 when 50 people took part.
