A dinner for four in Cardiff with Wales and British Lions legend Shane Williams will be just one of the prizes on offer at Longlevens Rugby Club on Saturday.

Others include an All Blacks shirt worn by the great Zinzan Brooke and a Gloucester shirt signed by the current squad.

All money raised from the auction will go towards the Stroke Association, the charity which offers lifelong support for stroke survivors.

Richard Rudge, a former player, captain, coach and chairman at Longlevens and these days a keen supporter, suffered a stroke two years ago and is hoping to raise £2,500 on Saturday.

A lunch will be held at the club before the Regional 2 Severn game against second-placed Chippenham, and 53-year-old Rudge said: “It’s going to be a big day, I'm very grateful for everyone's support.”

A James Roberts-signed British Lions rugby ball will also be up for auction and there will also be a raffle on the day as well as a post-match disco.

Rudge, who is hoping to run the London Marathon in April next year, wants to raise £6,500 in total for the Stroke Association and if he hits his target on Saturday he will be well past the halfway mark.

He became a keen triathlete after he’d stopped playing rugby and also did a couple of Ironmans, one in Portugal and the other in Holland.

It was while he was preparing for a third Ironman in Tenby that he suffered his stroke, but 12 months ago he ran the Stroud Half Marathon and he completed the Gloucester 10K earlier this year.

The lunch on Saturday starts at 1.30pm with guests arriving at 12.30. The match kicks off at 3pm, with Longlevens sixth in the 12-strong division, after winning four of their opening six games.
