This year’s ever-popular Fairford 10K gets under way at 10.30am tomorrow and it has attracted some quality runners.

The race is part of the 2026 Gloucestershire AAA Road Race Series and Dave Witnall, of organising club Running Somewhere Else, said: “There are 500 runners, it’s a really good field from across the county.”

Last year’s race was won by Matthew Lock, of Witney Roadrunners, in 32 minutes, 10 seconds and Witnall, who is head coach at Running Somewhere Else, continued: “It’s a race with PB potential if you’re sensible.

“You mustn’t go off to quickly. The first part of the race is quite undulating but the final two miles are quite quick.”

The course record of 31.43 was set by the RAF’s James Bellward in 2019 while the women’s record was set way back  in 2008 by Cirencester Athletic Club’s Wendy Nicholls, who clocked 34.49.

This year’s race will follow the traditional route, starting at the end of Park Street before taking runners west along Mill Lane and then north into Quennington.

A drop down Fowler’s Hill takes the competitors to the bottom of the largest incline on the route.

Once at the top, they will turn right and head south and down hill along Hatherop Road back into Fairford, then a swift loop through The Croft, on to the High Street before the final stretch back on Park Street to the finish outside Race HQ.

The race is part of the Fairford Festival, which started on Thursday and finishes tomorrow.

Lock, meanwhile, won the Bourton 10K in February in 31.20.
