Stuart Langworthy is on top of the world after guiding England’s over-60 men’s walking football team to glory at St George’s Park.

Langworthy, who took over as manager in 2017, watched on with pride as his side won the World Nations Cup with a convincing 3-0 final win over France.

The squad included Abbeymead Rovers goalkeeper John Hammonds and their victory last week was their second major success after they won the Euros.

And it was certainly a very special few days for walking football in England because the over-50s were also crowned champions too.

Their squad included Ed Lilley and Steve Crilley, who both have close ties with Abbeymead, and they clinched their title with a penalty shootout win over the Czech Republic.

A delighted Langworthy said: “Over 20 nations took part – 26 teams over both competitions.

“It was a wonderful international event bringing players from all over the world together, united by walking football.”
